Re:Looking for advise with my exhaust

I straight piped mine Monday, and I really like it ;D. Windows up, can't hardly hear it, unless the truck is working, or I am pushing the pedal a little hard . Windows down you can hear it pretty good. Find someone who has it done, and hear it for yourself. It only cost me $45 dollars at the local exaust shop. I will look into a 4 inch pipe when I bomb my truck.

Have you thought about going to Geno's for the Muffler Elimination kit? I took my cat off and put the "cat test pipe" in its place ($55.00 or so) and put the ME kit in place of the muffler ($45.00 or so). Sounds good......not near as good as the 4" system. Still sounds good under acceleration.... especially in tunnels or underpasses.

Loose the muffler and cat. Can't really notice the difference with the windows up. But now most of the time I drive with them down ;D

Got to love the exhaust sound through tunnels or walls and definaltely passing some of the other trucks.

Re:Looking for advise with my exhaust

When I decided to remove the muffler I made an appointment with a local mom and pop muffler shop for the next day. They quoted me $40.00 to replace the muffler with a three inch piece of pipe. The shop welded hangers on the pipe and welded the pipe in place of the muffler. I was worried for the whole time that the sound would be too loud. When I picked the truck up I thought at first they may not have done it!! With the windows up there was very little difference. My wife was following me and I looked at her in the rear view mirror and she put her hands up like "where is this big difference".

Then I went over an overpass with the window down....nice. I can really hear the turbo more through the exhaust, and it has a nice tone when you put your foot in it. This truck gets pulled into the police station parking lot every day....no problems there!! It was definetely worth the $40.00. I would check with local shops before spending the money on a muffler elimination kit at twice the cost.

I recently cut out the entire side of the airbox by the fender, where the insert had gone through the fender. I also added some 1 1/4 holes in the side of the box. With the silencer ring removed and a K&N filter, I hear more turbo noise while driving than exhaust!!

Re:Looking for advise with my exhaust

I had the muffler and resonator replaced w/ a 3" straight pipe for $30. I can't tell the difference in the cab, but outside, it's loud.
