Lock ideas for tail gate handle

I am trying to come with a way to lock my tail gate on a 98 2500. I looked online and found the "POP & lock" mod that is supposed to do the trick. I could not get it to work so I returned. Has anyone come up with a mod or replacement handle that would do the job?

Some of the tailgates came with a long bolt that went through the lower hinge bracket making it so you needed a tool to remove the tailgate.

I am thinking I see them on the '94/'95s usually. I would guess you could just buy the bracket/socket for the tailgate and bolt it on.

Thanks for the quick reply. My problem is I have a tonneau cover that locks from the inside the bed. I also have the hose like clamp that goes around the hinge on the passenger side. So what I am looking for is a lock for the release handle on the gate itself. I am going to call POP & lock and see if maybe I ordered the wrong one. I will let you know how I make out.

I put a barrel slide for a gate on mine. Upper passenger corner. Easy. Effective. You can pull the tailgate open with the canopy closed/locked is why I did this years ago. I'll post some pics in a bit...

I like your idea. My problem is the soft cover locks from inside the bed so I would not be able to get to it. However you got me thinking, how about some type of solenoid like the fuel shut off. I could put a switch in the cab to release it. I have to think about this.

I also placed a hose clamp around the dowel on the passenger side to thwart theft of the tailgate years ago also. It keeps the notch from being able to line up and is secure when opened...takes a minute to loosen and remove it before removing tailgate....
