Lifting the Cargo Box
Lifting the Cargo Box
I'm going to install a Draw Straw in my trucks' fuel tank and I want to lift the cargo box vs lowering the fuel tank. Primary reason is so that I can run the engine to check everything after installation and not have to lower the tank again if there is a problem.
I have read many threads on the subject and supposedly it's an easy job - 3 bolts on each side of the frame. My problem is that I can only find one bolt in the frame on each side. The other two "bolts" appear to be large pins with no bolt head and pointed ends. I have looked several times and that's all I see. I have an 02 short bed and I'm wondering if they did something different on the 02 models or just my truck. Anybody have any ideas? Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places.

Look inside the box and find the bolts. I can't remember, but they all (or none?) don't go through the frame. Sounds like you are in the right place, but the bolts that hold the box go through the mounting brackets that you are describing as being riveted to the frame. All bolts should be vertical and it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes to pull the box.
I was under the impression that the bolts that hold the cargo box to the frame do not go through the box on the Dodge trucks. Support brackets are welded to the bottom of the box and that's what the bolts go thorough. Besides, my truck has a spray-in bedliner. I have the Dodge service manual and it clearly shows 6 bolts and their location. Problem is I can't find 4 of the bolts - only 4 large pins or rivets, whichever.
