Keyless entry

I have keyless entry on my 99 and I have lost one of the remotes to open the doors. Does anyone know if I by a new one do I have to have it set up by the dealer or can I do it myself and what would it cost.

Re:Keyless entry

I think in the tech Facts there is a way to program them in there somewhere.

Not sure about the setup of them but Ebay always has new factory remotes for sale.

Re:Keyless entry

Just went through the same thing. I bought a new fob and tried to self program it on my 98 using the above mentioned procedure. Could not get it to even act like it was going to work. Talked with 2 different dealers and they both said that the 98 and up remotes have to programed by the dealer's computer. They also said that when adding a new fob to the mix that all the other fobs had to be reset. Apparently the programing of a new one resets the on board computer and it has to be told about each and every fob that will be used with the system. If you do it , be sure and bring all of your key fobs so they can be checked and reset. Cost me another 40 bucks for the for the "computer time".

In short, I could not get it to work and had to take both dealerships at their word and cough up the money.

Re:Keyless entry

I guess that I will have to check out the dealer price here the I think the last time I checked it was around $100.00 for a new fob and to program it which I thought was a bit pricey just to open the door

Re:Keyless entry

I'm not familiar with doing it on a Dodge, but I helped a buddy with a Tahoe do his. All we had to do was short out a pin on a connector under the dash and push the button to program his new remote. The dealer wanted $50 for that service. I found the info by googling.

So what's my point? I guess just be sure you really need a "computer", and it's not just something simple like that. It took me about 1 min to find the info, 1 min to program is remote. Not worth $50 IMO.

No Worries
