Question How much should I expect

I'm an owner operator doing hot shot work and I got back from a short run towing about 10000# on a 40ft goose neck trailer. The truck towed pretty good on flat road torque was good but could only get to about 60 mph in 5th gear at about 22 to2500rpms 6th gear was mostly obsolete , no power at all. when the load came off all power was back and when the trailer came off truck ran awsome. my lift pump and injection were replaced at the same time about 2 months ago. I just expected there to be more power. The truck is totaly stock except for being stright piped.

Sounds about right for a stock truck with a big load.

Depending on the grade, I would also agree sounds about right.

You would be surprised what a very small increase in power will do for your towing abilities.

Something's not right. You should have been able to generate more rpm's in 5th than that on flat ground. Start simple, change the fuel filter first, check the air filter. I just towed to Ohio in December. The load was about 11k, trailer about 4k and I grossed just under 23,400. Granted, I ran a Smarty but I set the cruise on 60-62 and never down shifted once.

It would be cheaper to add a little more power than change gears out. Especially if you can not change them out yourself, that much money could gain you more power from performance parts then changing out gears could. I agree check your fuel and air filters first.
