How many miles is too many?

How many miles is too many for a 12v? looking to by one but all the trucks under 200,000 are over what i can pay. the trucks with like 200k to 250k or so still look pretty good, but how will they run and can i still modify the engine without hurting anything?

As far as the engine goes, you can tell by how it runs. The problem with higher mileage vehicles will be the maintenance on the rest of the truck itself.
