Headlights Do Not Always Work.

Hey Guys,

For the past two months or so, when I turn my headlights on in the mornings, sometimes they both come on just as expected.
Sometimes, only the drivers side comes on and I must walk out and tap on the passenger side headlight in order for it to come on.
And some times, neither light will illuminates... regardless if I tap on them or not.

Im guessing I have two issues:
1) A loose connection on the passenger side headlight (fixed with a light tap on the lense) and,

2) Something going out, bad connection or loose connection somewhere else that causes the failure of illumination from both lights.

You guys have any ideas on this? Id appreciate your input as each morning its a guessing game as to whether the headlights will work or not.

Thanks,
Rich.

I would bet the switch is going bad and the filimant is going out in the passenger side. The switches do go bad and some have melted when going out. Goodluck,,,Rick

have you tried letting the steering column up or down? My headlights went out the other day and when I let the column down the lights would come back on but eventully it got were they would not work at all. I took the covers off the column and removed the knee bolster and it was a wire that had pulled loose from the wire block on the hi and low beam switch handle.

Just as Plow mentioned, you may want to try the steering column wire harness. Maybe this will help.

DD.....all good suggestions, but if it is in the column, my logical side (VERY minor part of my makeup) asks the question why tapping on the lense would correct the situation?
I had a similar problem for a while after going to some Brand X replacement bulbs. The "bulb out" indicator lamp would light and I would have lost one headlight. What I found it took to cure the problem in my case was to switch to brights for maybe 15 seconds, which heated up the bulb enuff so that when I switched back to low beams, they would both ignite. Kind of a pain, but it went away when I swapped out to SilverStars. Try flipping on the Hi Beams for a bit, and see if the Lows light afterward. If so, I would be suspicious of the bulbs.
