Headlight replacement

My bulb socket wore out and the bulb got loose and melted the socket and surrounding area of my passenger side headlight fixture. I bought the headlight fixtures for both sides but the retaining bolts on the bottom aren't very accessible from the front.

Has anyone changed these out? If so, how did you remove and reinstall those bolts?

James

do you mean the bolts that mount to the head light, or from the mount to the truck?

The mount to the truck. The part came as one piece with headlight, frame, and the side marker lamp

Ok it's a pain to do. You need a u-joint socket (10 mm)to get to two of the three bolts loose. You have to sort of slide them out sideways away from the center of the grill to get them out. To get the replacment back in, you need to remove the side marker light fixture first. On my truck there's a plastic bumper cover on the sides and top. We unfastened it on each side so that one of us could pull it back out of the way while the other person worried the new headlight fixture in.

My advice: I had to do the passenger side because of the melted socket, and I decided to do the driver's side to make them match-- If it ain't broke don't replace it. If they're hazy looking, spend 20.00 or so for a kit to fine sand and polish out the haze.
