My original post quotes "furnace oil". I should have been more specific.

It is not kerosene, I believe it is diesel #2. Or at least it smells/stinks like it.

I'll be giving it away to a friend with an oil furnace.

My fault for not being more specific.

Not a problem--I thought it would be very unusual for it to be kerosene, but #2 heating oil by itself won't cause the type of fuel system damage you described on your friend's truck so I thought it was worthwhile to verify.

Your friend probably drained it off the bottom and got all the crud/water that had gathered in that tank over the years, and his fuel system couldn't handle it.
