I ordered a 40 psi Isspro gauge for my dads truck. It's an '02 made in April of 02. I previously installed a gauge on my '04 but the pump is hidden quite a bit more on the 02.

Anybody got any pics or advice on hooking up the sender on the '02?

 

i recently put a issapro fuel pressure gauge on my 01...the way i plumbed mine in was thru the shrader valve in the bottom of the inj pump(front lft side bout 3/4 way down) that was the simpliest way i found and convenient incase of a problem i could simply disconnect the hose put the stem back in schrader valve and be back on my way

 

i think vulcan has one of the easiest kits to install. it also upgrades the fuel line to larger line between the filter housing and pump.

I can't tell from the photo, is there a place to plumb in the gauge or do I need to get some different fittings? Is there a good reason to get the 1/2" hose on a stock truck?

 

i'm positive there is a piece much like this one on the kit.
i put the tapped 90 on the bottom of the fuel filter housing, and the regular 90 on the pump inlet.

The large fuel line is nice, What I am really looking for is some confidence in where to connect to the pump. I'm not familiar with the different models but the one I have on my '04 looks like this.

Does the '02 have the same pump and connect at port A?

 

totally different pump on the two trucks.

03+ uses the CP3
the 02 will be a VP44

I take it the two ports labeled here are the supply and return. Since I don't have the truck here, which one is the supply line? The bigger one, A?

Now you have basically 2 options for for a sample point 1) on the outlet of the fuel filter:



Or 2) on the test port on the VP-44:



The fuel filter outlet is the best option, IMO. Hope this helps.

 

Thanks, Doc. Why do you prefer using the filter outlet? It seems like it would be better to go right on the pump.

 

i also think think the filter is a better option. 2 reasons (don't know if they are valid or not though)

1) the closer you are to the pump itself, the stronger the pulsations will be. this can be hard on your gauge. you can use a needle valve as shown to dampen the pulsations.

2) i had my FP gauge hooked up at the vp44 with the tapped banjo. i have recently moved it to the bottom of the canister (vulcan's kit). here is why: i recently installed a MiTUSA mechanical LP. i noticed under full throttle that my pressure would get sucked down (it shuld actually stay the same or go up with mech LP). after moving it to the bottom of the canister it does not get sucked down. i think when the gauge is hooked up at the vp inlet with the tapped banjo a venturi effect happens at full flow and actually draws some fuel/pressure from the gauge tubing - thus dropping your pressure 'reading' (but not necesarily the actual pressure). with the gauge tapped in on the bottom of the canister with vulcans kit, the fuel/pressure flows directly into the gauge tubing, rather than flowing by it.
