Well picked up my starter from an electric shop in town that rebuilds and repairs all sorts of electrical stuff. Turns out it was two things, the connectors and the brushes in the motor itself. Both were pretty shot.
Spent a little more than I wanted but, what ever parts they used to rebuild it, the dang thing works better than it did new. Even gave it a nice coat of paint lol
Guess now I will look into some other cold weather starting aids to take a little work off the poor starter

How is that stuff do in the summer time? The truck hardly gets enough miles on it in a year to change the oil twice lol

 

Don't mind me asking, what did you pay to get the starter rebuilt? Mines original.

 

Synthetic 5w40 does fine in the summertime. The 40 designation is the one that matters when the oil is up to temp.

 

Get an oil pan heater. The kind that requires the paint to be removed and then stuck on, the magnet kind do not work that well.

 

I will check around and see how much the oil is. In town it was about $220 most places in Laramie run rather high for everything like that. How ever the mechanic at work told me he takes all the university heavy equipment starters down when they need fixed. So far he has never had to take one back to get it fixed again and some of out heavy duty trucks are going on 30 years old.
