Cracked Rims

I have had 2 rims on my 2001 2500 crack at the oter inside lip. They are the cast aluminium style, has anyone had this happen to them? Never hit any big pot holes or anything, I just noticed the air kept getting low and the tire shop pointed out the cracks. I have 92000 KM on the truck and not sure if warranty will cover it?

those rims arent cast aluminum - they are forged......never heard of that happening to a factory rim.

That's interesting. I've got 68K on my factory rims and they are still perfectly fine.

I would certainly approach your dealer about this. It's a safety issue, and if there are other truck like this, well, they need to know about it. They should replace your rims at no cost as it's likely a defect.

Never heard of any cracked ones but Dodge had a large batch of rims in about 2000 that were out of round. Apparently the rim manufacturer was stacking rims in the upright position right after they were forged and hot causing them to elongate.

I know of a 2001 or 2002 (not shure) that has been having problems with cracking rims , and they are the forged aluminum type.

The guy who owns this truck regularly hauls 6000-8000 lbs in the bed , so that might be a contributing factor. he has cracked not one but several rims. I do not know if dodge is replacing them , but i do know he is trading up to a 3rd gen soon , he has almost 300 000K on it already.

They seem to all crack on the inside bead and only visible with the tire off. Both mine have gotten to the point where they always went flat. I called a used rim place and the guy called them the famous "crackers" and cannot keep them in stock. BTW the last rim was on the front of the truck and it cracked in the summer time. If anyone in canada wishes to sell me one that they may have kicking around Please post. Thanks Shawn.

My local dodge dealer had a set on the floor the other day when I was there. I asked him what happened there since you could tell they had been used. He said that a guy came in and one of the rims had cracked so they had to give him 3 new ones. Said Dodge had a re-call on em and 3 of his were made whenever the dates were that they were re-calling. You might want to ask your dealer about it. I don't think it is public knowledge as of yet.

Suggest you continue to persue the issue up the line with Chrysler. Try a different dealer, then go up the chain to the regional manager. This is an apparent known safety issue.

It would be nice if you had a picture to verify which rims you saw at the dealer. The only truck wheels that had a recall were some late 03, early 04 on a limited date code. You should really have some more solid info before you come on here crying wolf. If you indeed did see some 01 style aluminum wheels, my appology. If not, back up your statements.
