Cloudy headlights ??
Cloudy headlights ??
I just came across this the other day.
I have the 3M polish & cleaner that is supposed to remove the cloudiness from the plastic headlights lenses. it does a good job (cost 20 bucks for both bottles tho).
BUT...
Wenol metal polish (the red tube) does an AWESOME job ! It made the headlights on my car look almost brand new, easily did the job twice as good as the 3M stuff, and it costs 1/3 the money (8 bucks for a 4 oz tube)!!
Summit sells it, as I know I haven't seen it local.
Less than 5 minutes of work with a paper towel and a couple of dabs of polish the size of a dime, and the headlights now pass inspection with flying colors.
just a tip I felt like passing on

I used a system that started with 400 grit sandpaper and finished out at 12000 grit then used a polish afterwards. It really cleared up the outer hazing/crazing but lo and behold I also had dampness in the headlight and the reflector has deteriorated a little.....well guess I have to get some of those new projector lights whenever it fits into my bombing scheme...
I have the Permatex kit in my truck that has the sand paper and the polish, I just haven't done it yet.
I was wondering if a good grade polish and my Mothers Powerball would do just as good a job. I do have some good scratches in them though..

Head Light Lens
I did mine with a micro mesh kit. I started out with 400 grit, sanded in one direction, 1800 grit at 90 degrees, 2400 grit 90 degrees (original direction) and continued on until I finished with 6000 grit, a past and then an anti static cream that prevents dirt from sticking to the lens. I was really impressed with the results as I started out with a hazie yellow and ended up with transparent lenses again. The wife had mentioned that the headlights we not very bright. When I finished with the micro mesh kit they were clear bright and look like new with no leaks and I live in the tropics.
