Brake Warning Lights On

My brakes seem to work fine but both the brake and ABS lights came on recently and stay on. I checked the fluid and visualed the brake lines and wiring and could find no problem. Should I just ignore the warning lights? I don't want to make the dealer richer for no reason.

Pete,

Check the thread in the 24V engine forum a few days back. I went through the same problem I think.

Check your fuses. The stop light fuse has blown before when I tow my trailer.

Hey Pete:

You haven't filled in your signature so I don't know what your truck is, but you might want to have your speed sensor checked. It screws into your rear differential. If this sensor is out, your brakes will work normally, but you won't have ABS. Fairly easy fix, but I'm not sure of cost, as my truck was still under warranty when mine went south.

Re:Brake Warning Lights On

I would say that Pete has an automatic since he didn't say anything about the speedometer not working.

I just replaced the sensor in the rear-end, it was like $35 from the dealer.

If you have a 4-wheel drive truck, you can remove your spare tire and get under the truck from the back and replace it while you are on your knees.

Hope this helps.

YES YES YES Pete! Please listen to these guys about the rear axle speed sensor! Read the thread I just posted today (11/18 at 7:15 PST) titled "Brakes". Same problem I had and it was not the first time either.
