Brake Lights On

Need a little help. On my 01 2wd 2500 the brake light are staying on constantly. I have isolated to problem to something supplying a hot feed back in to the system. I have disconnect the stop lamp switch and the muilti switch to check for a malfunction. The rear brake light go out, but the 3rd brake light stay's on. I have tried disconnecting the trailer brake control with no luck. After testing the connectors on the muilti switch and the stop lamp switch I have 12v on the wire that connects both together ( with the stop lamp switch unplug there should not be any power supplied to the muilti switch to control the brake lights). Any help would be great.
Thanks

I'm just throwing this out there.....I had an 03 3500 that the brake light started giving me all kinds of problems, not working at all unless I jammed on the brake pedal harder than I would ever do.....staying on, third light working and no brake light, etc etc. After going through three after market brake light switches from Auto Zone and following the instructions to a T, I finally got the advice of a trusted mechanic who said that some electrical items are better bought at the dealer. Iwent to the dealer and bought the part (about 15-20 bucks) and problem solved. Apparently the original is a bad design and the aftermarket is actually a very good copy of a bad design (making it crappy too). Then the auto maker fixed the design and so the part they sell at dealer actually works the way it is suppossed to. Hope this helps. Louis

Looks like you have covered all the normal areas for this to occur:
1) brake light switch. Lights are still staying on with this disconnected?
2) multifunction switch.
3) trailer brake controller.

Next place I would go is inside your 7 pin trailer connector, where the wires connect. Quite often the connector will fill up with mud and slush that can short several circuits together. Have a good look at any trailer-related wiring that may have been added on, under the truck. Common place for problems to occur.
