Block Heater Tips
Block Heater Tips
Some tips for checking the block heater operation:

- first plugging it in, look for a spark at the male/female connecter. A good block heater will always spark. This spark is easier to see at dusk but if you are looking for it, you will see it during daylight.

-Check for continuity at the male ends. No continuity, then either the block heater or block heater cord is bad. Remove the cord at the heater to check each component, (cord/heater element).

Mixing the antifreese with distilled water will help to reduce calcium/impurity build-up in the whole cooling system. Use low silcate antifreeze.

Make sure the antifreese you use is also aluminum compatible as the Cummins has an aluminum oil/(antifreeze) cooler.

TBGH
Re:Block Heater Tips
You should also hear a slight bubbling hissing sound about five seconds after you plug it in if you listen up front at the grille or around the right front tire. Mine even has a slight whine to it when working correctly. I use one of those extension cords with the little LED indicator light on the female end to make sure I have 110 volt power. What a concept huh?
