bed and tailgate for 96 vs 01

I'm looking to buy a Camper for my truck, but the guy who is selling it said that it won't fit in his 01. He said the tailgate opening between the post needs to be 64" wide. I was wondering if anyone knows whether the 96 is wider than the 01's or are the bed and tailgates the same?

Thanks

Take it for what its worth, both Ebay and car-part.com lists the same tailgate for the model years 1994-2002. My truck has a 2002 bed on it, but I havent measured it. If you want, I can do and report back.

I just measured my 2002, and it is 60 1/4 inches post to post on my truck with the 8 ft bed. Hope that helps ya.

I've been looking for a cap for my truck. According to both Leer and Century dealers, 94-01 takes the same cap. 02 is it's own special animal and 03 on are the same. I was going to buy a used cap from a guy but he had on 05. We measured to be sure and there was about 3/8 difference in the width at the tailgate as well as 1/2 inch width near the cab and about inch in length. Also the curvature at the front of the bed is different between the old and new body styles. I'd guess that they should be the same between 94-01 for what it's worth.

Thanks guys, it looks like all of the beds are the same, at least through 02.

Beware on the 02. I think the 1500 and 2500 are different size beds.
