Batteries
Re:Batteries
I was talking about this with a friend just yest. Could you possibly draw it out for us stupid people? Also, what gauge wire would you use? I was thinking about going to two either red or yellow top optimas when the need arises for it. Since I like to listen to my system with the truck off, this setup would be very nice.
Re:Batteries
If you were doing the split thing, the object would be to use a start battery (red top) on the right side, and a deep cycle (yellow) on the left side.

In actual practice you would only disconnect the crossover at the right side battery and put a start solonoid from it to where it came from on the right battery. The charge wires would be fine with #10 to and from the isolator. One leg of the isolator would go to the stock position for the right battery charge and the other leg would go to the terminal that now has the crossover cable on it.

The start circuits would operate in all but a totally dead situation so that should not be a problem. If it went completely dead or the start battery failed, push the button to operate the solonoid and the hot battery boosts the dead battery which ever one that is. On real cold mornings that system would also give you more amps to get going.

I have not really studied the system but the whole electrical system except for the starter circuit seems to come from the fuse box on the left that that is fed by a cable from the left side battery. The reason that the right side battery goes bad first is because it will charge faster and the starter will drain it faster because of the loss to the other side. A dirty cable will really screw things up.
