Auxillary control panel....

Well I have begun rewiring the mess previous owners have done. Its nice going from a jungle of unlabled, unorganized wiring, thats spliced all over the place... to a nice little circuit panel with fuse and junction boxes, custom harnesses, routed wiring, soldered connections etc... its lots of fun!!!

Right now the only thing I am wiring up is is my veggie solenoids but I am setting up a system that it can easily be expanded for wiring to gauges, lights, pumps etc... thats not the problem, my issue is finding a place to put the control panel for all of this. I have plans for a pyrometer and boost gauge, those will be stuck on the pillar, out of the way. However I need a location to put an auxillary fuel gauge, auxillary oil temp gauge, possibly another gauge if need be, and a multitude of switches and lights for various accessories.

I have a 5spd thus I cannot really put anything in that area of the lower dash, so im thinking a long pod on top of the dash??? At best I can find those little 2 gauge pods, not nearly big enough. Does anybody have any setups they could show me? Or perhaps know of a place that makes large dash pods?

Thanks!

You could make a pannel to install in the glove compartment for switches not accessed on a normal basis.

Some of pulled the ashtray, mounted a plate and found room for a gauge or two and some switches

I've seen somewhere where they sell a gauge pod that goes on top of the steering wheel column, thats another option. I wanna say Geno's has it.
I put a row of switches on a piece of aluminum angle and bolted it up to the floor console next to my 4wd handle. You have plenty of room to run wire underneath the console. And so far, I havent kicked em.

What I did on my 1995 was remove the ash tray and cup holder. Where the ash tray was, I made a panel from "flat stock", and installed 4 square push button switches. The switches are back lit when the lights are on, and are "brighter" when activated. I have one as the "momentary", which I use for the air horns. The plate attaches with two screws into the original holes used to secure the ash tray frame. You can use any type of switches, and if you went with a toggle type, I'm sure you could get at least five in. Since mine were "square" it took some filing to make the square cut outs. I did basically the same thing with the cup holder location, where I installed 2 gauges. I used black plexi-glass. I traced out the outline from the cup holder, cut two round gauge holes. Again I used the original mounting holes for the screws. I capped all the screws with the plastic cap screw covers. It was not really a hard job, but time consuming. Routing the wires & lines are pretty easy. I don't have a digital camera, so no pictures, sorry. I do remember seeing somewhere, and I thought on TDR there was company that made and sold similar type mounts. You might want to try a "search". Buying the mounting plates sure would be easier, I saw it after making mine...
