anyone tried this

Hi all,

I too am tired of replacing steering boxes.i was wondering if anyone has thought of fabbing a rack-n-pinion setup to a 2nd gen.i am currently trying to find a core unit to mock up and have a welder/fab guy ready to help.

Any thoughts???????????

Enjoy,
Mike

On a solid axel I think it will be almost impossible or labour intensive

my question would be is the rack and pinion heavy enough? the turning forces on these trucks are incredible. i know in small cars rack and pinion is the way to go but i have never seem one in a light truck application.

my bad I incorrectly assumed you were refering to a 4x4,

the boxes (even out of the box) require proper adjustment, and are prone to lower bearing wearing out unless you install a DSS
