Adjustable Ball Joints?
Adjustable Ball Joints?
Can somebody suggest whether or not I should rebuild my front end using regular or adjustable ball joints? Up until now I’ve never heard of adjustable ball joints and don’t wanna purchase them if I won’t be able to use them or they may make things worse. I'm using all Moog parts and they offer both
Thanks
Thanks
I don't know why but this subject keeps coming up more and more. I don't know if it's the auto repair industry pushing these adj BJ that make it easier for alignment or what the big push is behind the adj ones??? IMO, if you have a stock height truck the MOOG replacement BJ would be the ones to go with as well as a lifted one, in my case. I had my truck in for alignment back in Jan and told me the BJ needed replacement w/the adj ones. When I left the alignment was worse than when I took it in, so I took it back 3wks later and alignment was then great and no recomendation to replace the BJ. I think it may all be in the mechanics opinion and mechanical knowledge. I did not replace them and the truck drives really good for 8k lbs going down the hwy. Just my thoughts in trying to figure this out as well.
I just replaced ball joints last weekend and had the same dilema as you. The last time I had NTB do an alignment, they told me that they could not align it without installing adjustables, so I authorized the work. So here I am trying to debate if I should purchase adjustables or regulars. I decided to go with regulars since the adjustables were double the price of regulars. Glad I did, because when I pulled the old joints out, I was expecting to find an adjustable. NOT.... NTB had lied and charged me for adjustables, but installed regulars. I love getting ripped off by shops. Guess who will never see another dime from me? Anyway, you should be fine with regulars. I had the alignment done on Tuesday and the shop had no problems aligning it with the regulars.
I don't know what year truck you have, but here's the Moog part numbers for an 01 2500 4x4
Upper - K7394
Lower - K7397

Its a lot like our politics , with so many bs.ers , it hard to know what to do , if you are not familiar with a subject .
For the Dana 60 axial , there are 2 option available , [ different amount of adjustment ] .
Back to politics , its hard to find a good alignment shop / person that knows what there are doing , so many of the new systems are so computer driven , that do not allow any data in that it has not been programed , sometimes there are better options , I read & seen an article around that refers to adjusting to other than stock spec.s , for driving around with at least a partially loaded truck , most of the time .
So you need to find someone good enough at what there doing , that they can help an informed truck owner , get what they want .
With no adjustments avalable in stock truck , its not uncommon for a truck to not match stock settings , then add a few yrs. & millage , and now its is even more common to need to be able to make adjustments .
