ABS/BRAKE Light question...

Just last night I went up into the snow country with a friend to see about snowmobile access and other things. Once the snow started to get to deep I turned around and started heading down. Road was slick and icy. I stopped at one point and tried to back up in 4WD HI and just spun. STOP again and went to 4WD LO. It started to back up but also spun. STOPed again and returned to 4WD HI. The proceeded down hill. At this point both ABS & BRAKE LIGHT came ON and ABS system had failed. Boy talk about braking difference! I continued slowly to a dry spot. Shutdown and checked for codes.
PCU P0500 - Speed sensor...
ECU P1693
These are the only codes I got. When I re-started the truck the ABS/BRAKE light cames for a short time then went off. ABS system was back on line.

Question is what cause this to occur exactly? This is the first time ever that I've seen the ABS/BRAKE light. I have seen just the BRAKE LIGHT few time usually after playing in the snow. I can normally reset that by a heavy foot on the brake once.

Spinning tires must have done it.

The ABS computer thought it was getting faulty readings from the sensors so it shut down the system.

It saw the spinning, then saw everything was stopped, then saw the spin again, then stopped again, and got confused.

Once you were moving at a normal speed again, it saw normal readings and turned on the ABS.

It was after the ignition was shut off for a period of time. I guess it reset. I was having a bit of trouble getting trouble codes. So I turn it off and pulled the key and waited a minute or so... Then it worked. Then the next restart the lights came on then went out again... Hmmm...

Just really odd and strange... I got to admit I like the 4WAL feature...

I figure I would asked and find out what causes it and becareful not to trigger it... Especially on a icy forestry road!

Kind of like this one...
