saw a 98 dually quad cab 12 valve the other day, auto, 2wd for sale they asked 9800. around 200,000 miles, it looks clean
what you think is the price right? what to look for?

The price is fair, expecially if the truck is in good condition. Look at the front end assembly and drive the truck to see how much play is in it. If there is not a 5th wheel or gooseneck installed in the bed then you know that there was no SERIOUS heavy hauling. Search for 12v problems and you will find everything that you need to know. Good thing about the 12v is the mpg, and they make great power with little done to them. Good Luck!

 

I am looking at 98 2500 regular cab which thankfully has a "D" as the 8th digit in the VIN (represents the 12 valve engine yahoo). There are 195k miles (335000 km). The seller wants 8000 Cdn, I will bring it in to my company's cummins guy tomorrow. The test drive was amazing everything was nice and tight. Research this site and just like "Boostjunkie" said; every thing you need to know on purchasing a gently used "Cummin" is in here. As of this weekend I had never thought of owning a diesel, just came across an interesting ad in autotrader.ca and spent the weekend researching KDP, "53", 12 valve vs 24 valve etc.
