2002 dually issues
Has anyone compared power and fuel economy between the 12V and 24V trucks? I just bought a 2002 24v dually,CTD,auto 4x4,4.10 gears. The best it will get is 13-15 MPG ,doesn't pull worth a darn.It is completely stock, with 13,000 miles, only work ever done on it was the computer was flashed under warranty, and normal maintenance.I changed oil and filter, fuel filter, air filter when i got it,3 weeks ago.The truck it supposed to replace is a bone stock 96 12v dually,4x4,auto 4.10 gears, identically optioned as the 2002 with 234,000 miles. It gets 16-19,and will run circles around the 2002 especially pulling the horse trailer.I'm talking the same load on the same hill, coming out of the farm, the 96 topped the hill at 48,the 02 at 36-37. I took the 2002 back to the Dodge dealer I bought it from and they say it is running correctly after a road test and putting it on the computer. Are all the 24v's this sorry,if so it's going down the road and I'll buy another 12V.
No they all don't run that bad.
If your stock 12v is out performing your 24v then your 24v is broke cause no stock 12v will out perform a stock 24v, that goes against the laws of physics...
Not sure what to tell you is broke but good luck with the dealer....Pete

My '02 dually 4x4 6 speed gets 22 mpg unloaded and on the highway. Towing a 30 foot trailer, it gets 14-16 mpg. It has larger injectors, a timing box, and a bigger turbo. Making almost 400 horsepower, runs sweet. So take that for what it's worth.
Mine usually averages 13.40.... G/F likes to see black smoke too much I guess... Last trip unloaded it averaged 17.80... Haven't towed much lately so I don't have any fuel report on that...

My 3500 dualie gets 19.5 unloaded all the time and 20+ occasionally with 4.1's and 5 spd. I drive 65 max and use the cruise control all the time. As far as towing ...well the trailer better have one tough hitch or I'll yank it off.
Last week I pulled a big "dirt mover" for a friend. I hardly even stepped on the "fuel" pedal going up a 25 deg bank out of the creek we went through.
If you go 70+ then gas mpg goes down pretty fast even with less gear. These trucks are not sports cars so they push wind.
