Question When to replace starter brushes

I just replaced the solenoid plunger and contacts on my starter, and was curious about the motor brushes. Anyone know how long they last?

Mine are still going strong. I did the contacts a few years or more ago. The guy at the auto electric house looked at the armature and said it looked fine so I haven't touched it...

By the way, the heavy Duty contacts were only 5 or 6 bucks and look identical to the 35 dollar set from that other guy.....

Thank you guys for the info. Sounds like my starter has a lot more life on the brushes.

Its one of the easiest and cheapest repairs you can do on a $300 part for sure...

Most people dont realize how stout these OEM starters are and when the contacts need replacing, they run down to the local parts store and pick up one of those "lifetime warranty" units which are nothing compared to what they just traded in.
