A 'What if' Scenario on the 53 Block

I am thinking about purchasing a 99 ram 2500, although i havnt seen it yet i know it has 76000 miles on it. One of my main concerns about this vehicle is that the 5 year/100000 warranty is up this year and 'what if' i had a 53 block and it cracked after i bought it?
Do you think dodge/cummins would be obliged to fix it under the expired warranty as its not a general 'wear and tear' occurence but a manufacturing **** up, unless you bomb or tow extreme weight.

What are your thoughts/opinions on this??

thanks

No, they're not obligated to do anything..... however, sometimes Cummins will work with you on a replacement block. Notice I said, "work with you", not "give you".

If it were me I would just walk away, it’s not worth the trouble.
If you want the truck bad enough I would use that as a bargaining chip. Tell them you are aware of the problem with their #53 block and they will have to come down on the price to make the deal. It might work.
Just be sure to start putting away some money just incase it cracks. And if you will have to take it to a shop to get the work done you might want to put a lot of money on the side.
Just my $0.02 worth.
