What did I just do?
I was reading on a different board that you can check the Hours the engine has been run by turning the key to the run position and pressing the trip odometer. So I thought that might be a good thing as I bought my truck used. Well That didn't work so I tried pressing the trip odo and then turning the key to the run position. Well this cause a different self check I think. The odometer reads CheC and all the gauges/lights flash, then the speedo, tach, fuel etc. go to zero, pause 30%, 50% and 100% then the gauges return to normal with the door chime dinging even the door was closed. What was that? I haven't really driven the truck sense then but starting the truck and pulling it into the garage from the driveway it sounds like it used to, really rattily and loud, it's been getting quiet lately and that's my concern with the FP gauge install questions lately. I doubt the sound has anything to do with the check but?

That engine hours thing doesn't work on our 2nd gens, only the 3rd gens.
What you did was the instrument cluster self check.
Kinda cool, eh?
Circumstance that the engine sounds different now.
