Wacky Tach / CAM Sensor

It feels like my foot falls off the accelerator every once in a while driving down the road, like a hiccup. Truck runs great overall. Fuel pressure was low, changed the LP over the weekend and now good FP. CEL comes on after hiccup, codes are 0500, 1693, 1694. I am going to try and hook it up to a real scanner when CEL is on and I can find a scanner. Temp/Alt/Oil Pressure gauges seem to be unaffected; tach will begin acting like a windshield wiper after this. Sometimes it will be stationary, drop to zero, all over the place; engine remains smooth. I imagine the hiccup and tack problems are related.

What else would cause a wacky tack besides the CAM sensor? Engine seems to run smooth accept for the foot flying off the accelerator bit. CAM sensor is my obvious target, but trying to understand what else it could be. I don’t think the APPS and tach would be related. The odometer codes do not reveal the CAM code.

Is it possible to change the CAM without removing the VP44? Any tips?

It should be like mine, see sig, I went in from the driver side. It is just under the Vp. You can see the sensor and wire plug. No need to remove the VP. You might want some small hands near by You will need an allen wrench to R&R, sorry I don't remember the size.
