Tips? Uh, start up front
The end that looks like this:
Driveshaft u-joints weren't too bad. Much cheaper at Napa than the dealer. Does the noise change with speed? Any "snap" in the driveline?
Have someone else spin the wheels while you listen closely to the u-joints.
Just keep this in mind if you do the drive shaft:
When I pulled out the slip yoke, I lost all the ATF-4 in the transfer case because I DID NOT have the rear end up higher than the front end.
After I looked at the u-joints coming out of transfer case to the front diff, I decided I did not want to mess with those. I would pay someone else. They looked like a pain to get to.

I just had some u-joint go bad on my 2004 with 40K. I just pulled the whole drive shaft fram the transfer case to the rear diff and had them replace all 3 u-joints and the hanger bearing for 222. The hanger bearing was damaged from all the driveshaft vibration. They said one of my U-joints was down to dust in the bearing cap.
