truck storage

i need a lil insight on storing a diesel.

im in the United States Air Force, and set to deploy to Afghanistan here in a month or so. i was just wondering what all i should do to store my truck. i was planning on taking it over to the RV park where is store my 5th wheel, and parking it out there, filling the tank up (to prevent moisture), disconnecting both batteries, and putting some sort of anti moisture stuff in my tank.

anything bad about what i plan on doing? or does anyone have any better ideas?

What you're going to do sounds OK although I'm not sure about putting anything in the fuel tank since you dont know if that additive will be good to run through the VP. Topping off the fuel tank is probably best. Most what you should do will depend on how long you plan on being deployed for. 6 months is no big deal but a year or more could be an issue since no vehicle should set for that long. Thats not to say it will damage something but its never good for seals, rubber, and electronics to sit. Will the storage place be open to the weather or enclosed? Covering it in doors, filling the fuel tank, setting it on stands to get the tires off the ground, and completely disconnecting the batteries from each other and the truck, will probably be all you can or will need to do.
And thank you for your service too. Good luck on your tour and be safe.

you can add an storage solution in the fuel like gum out and lift it off the ground so its on blocks or wood to get the air under it and the springs and shocks from seating up also a good canvas tarp (it breaths ) not plastic will protect it against the sun / rain snow
make sure it is well secured against big wind and loosen the rad cap .......finally good luck and stay safe sorry to say the Tim Hortons is closed at the Kandahar base ........

Another thing I would do is to place couple sheets of fabric softener inside. You would be surprised what can make your truck a home if not used for few months. I used Howes in my fuel tank when my truck was stored for six months. It was advised by my heating oil supplier. Last thing, if you cannot remove batteries, get small sollar charger. ... Be Safe

Change the oil. Put some Startron in the fuel. It will keep fungi from growing in your fuel. People on the Mercedes forums use it. My 85SD wouldn't run because of bad fuel. I dumped the Startron in, let it sit a couple of days then drove it. Prior to that I thought it was as useful as snake oil.

Do you have someone you trust who can take it for a drive every month or so? If not, maybe there's someone you can leave your batteries with who can leave them on a battery tender at least.

Come back safe.

Block the suspension. It keeps the tires off the ground. Depending on how long the truck is sitting, it may not be necessary but its just better for the tires.
