truck shaking....need help !!!

The whole truck vibrates when moving between 5 and 10 mph during acceleration and deceleration. Outside of that, truck runs fine. Steering wheel does not vibrate. I'm assuming a u-joint or something along those lines is probably something that needs to be replaced. At this point I don't have a clue where and how to check for worn parts. What's the proper procedure to do this?

Where do I begin? Whats the likely culprit? What to check for?

I'd like to do the job myself if possible since cash is tight right now. Is this something I can do on my driveway? Any special tools I need? Where's the best place to buy parts? Pls advise.

Thanks for all the help.

Check your tires. Had a front tire wear from needing alinement and it vibrated at low speeds. Rotate and balance tires and see if cures it. Or if it changes. I had to replace the tire.

My front tires are probably ok since the steering wheel does not vibrate at all and the truck drives straight without holding the wheel.

at 5-10 mph if a u-joint was that bad you should be able to visually see that. put transfer case in N and tranny in N. and check your joints by hand. does this vib come at higher temps to or does it smooth out. would think if its that bad at 5-10 would be really bad at higher speeds if the problem is u-joint related. do u feel it more on driver side than passenger side if so raise the truck remove tire and check your hub assy, by trying to pull the rotor/hub up down left to right. also you could find a small hill and put everything in neutral and coast and see what you feel.

Jack up the front end, and give the tires a spin. Check the tires themselves for uneven wear, and watch them for wobble or out of round. And tug on the tire at 12 and 6, and at 3 and 9- check the wheel bearings and ball joints. I think that if it was a u-joint, you would notice it at other speeds.
