truck "lugging" when cold

ok heres a new one, 2002 24 valve, if it sits overnight, in the mornings when i start it it idles fine, go to move it, it acts like a gasser with the choke stuck.
it just boggs down & lugs along, no power , more fuel you give it more it lugs... But,, it clears it's self up with in a few yards, and runs fine after that.....untill it sits overnight again....
changed the fuel filter dumped in a bottle of injector cleaner...and..still acting weird when first taking off.....
So..... any ideas?.....I'm hopeing something simple like dirty injectors...and not the &*%@ fuel pump again...

Not on my 00. Made it through the winter (albeit TN warm winter) just fine.

Fuel pressure isn't an unknown if you have gauges. Have you checked for codes - with a scanner?

NO no.. not cold weather here, mid 60's in the mornings 80's in the afternoons..

no codes shown on the old turn the key 3 times trick..

don't know how to explain it better,,acting like a gas motor with the choke stuck , just bogging down... then after a few yards it's fine , almost like it's needing to build up pressure in the injectors or pump.....

no big puffs of smoke. just no power....bleah..... and it starts rolling ,slowly picking up speed, then it's fine untill it sits overnight..

don't know,, it's never happened before... and i'm kinda new at diesels So i'm at a loss

well.... had it out again this morning,,same thing started "lugging down" again.. hit the fuel and up to 3500 rpm's and no go...trans slipping in first, backed off and let it shift into second, and back to normal again..drove it for a while, back to shifting fine and no lugging...
just really confused now....engine lugging causeing trans to act funny or trans causing engine to lug?
guess this is the dreaded auto with a cummins problem......

same problem

I have an '01 that does the same thing, if I start it and let it warm up and idle for 5 mins or so, it is fine, if i jump in and start it and try to go right away, it really bellows out the smoke and acts like you described. Its almost like the torque converter is locked up or something weird in the trans. I need to call dave at goerend and ask him some ?'s i guess....If the truck is warmed up, it never does this at all. **** Gremlins.........

Does the tone change, almost get really quiet and blow white smoke when this happens? My dually used to do this quite a bit after I p-pumped it. Never did it with the VP, but did it with the p-pump. Even with a new set of injectors, it did it. When I went from the 150's that I had new, to a set of used 250's, it stopped doing it. No other changes. Not sure what the cause was, but a large set of used injectors seemed to be the cure.
