Trash in fuel filter bowl

I changed oil, filter, and fuel filter yesterday. When I drained the fuel filter bowl there was alot of trash in there. It looked like someone put about a tablespoon of coffee grounds in there. It took a while to clean out. I usually run ULSD and LSD when I find it, but I ran a full tank of B20 before I changed the filter. Could the detergent effect of the Bio be what caused the trash buildup? The truck has 115k miles so there must be alot of junk in the tank. I filled the rest of the tank up with LSD just in case. I don't think I'll be running anymore Bio. Anyone else seen this?

I usually have some small pebbles in mine. I just hold it upside down over the trash can and spray it out with brake cleaner.

You mean from the gas station....well I have a choice of ULSD at the BP down the road, pretty high volume place, or the WalMart down the road still carries LSD. Anybody know about WalMart quality? Maybe its from them...but it's a fairly new store.

You may have stuff from the bottom of the underground tank but chances are good it is gunk from your tank that the bd is washing out. Biodiesel is a very strong solvent and will clean your tank like new. If you plan on using bd it is a good idea to carry a filter in the truck till the tank gets cleaned out.

I will be installing a larger tank pretty soon and I'll bet there will be a very clean stock tank after having nothing but bd in it for three years.

Here's what mine looked like with 10,000 miles on the filter with regular LSD about 2 years ago. Took this picture when I did the lift pump change.

Wow, that canister has a lot of stuff in it

I must be lucky with the fuel I am running...my filters come out somewhat black after 10,000 km( i know only about 6250 miles, lol) and i'll have a few little particles in the bottom of the canister.

That canister may look bad, but it is doing its job. I would rather sediment collect there than the VP44.

BTW, my filters come out black as well at 10K.

I usually dump the fuel, the take a rag and clean it all out/dry it out. Sometimes I'll just take compressed air as well. Then I put the filter in, prime the filter, and then I install.

I just spray it down with brake cleaner and dump it out. Wipe it out with a rag and then hit it with the air nozzle. Through a new filter in and re-install on teh truck.

98 and 99, the whole filter bowl is removed for a filter change.

2000 on up, we take the lid off, filter bowl stays attached to the block.

98-99 therefore are alot easier to clean out.
