Any codes? Check engine lamp? Does the speedo work? Could be several things, but without any info other than it won't shift, anything would just be a guess. Rear Diff speed sensor, trans output speed sensor, numerous other electrical issues could all be the culprit.

Yeah....anything would just be a guess without having some codes. Have a local shop read the abs codes and go from there. They very well could be related. Check all the fuses and connections first. Keep it simple, then get the codes read.

<-- Speaking from exact same experience.

Save all that trouble and go down to the dodge dealership. Ask for the sensor that goes in the side of the transmission (I think its the output speed sensor, but regardless its the only one). Its around $30 IIRC. Crawl up under your truck on the drivers side and look at your trans housing. Youll see it. undo the clip and back out the old sensor with a crescent wrench or something. There will be a little ATF comming out, just have the new sensor ready. Ill bet you a case of beer that fixes it instantly.

A common thing on that trans is govenor transductor and solinoid goes bad.You have to drop the trans pan to get to them.

Yup, that's what happened to my tranny. Wouldn't shift out of 1st unless I revved it way up and let off the accelerator. I ended up putting in a new valve body from Goerend, so I'm not sure how much the Transducer and Solenoid is..

I think that the gov sensors might be out, which is why im having trouble shifting on mine...but still on his, its the transmission speed sensor. The ABS light confirms this

Just because the ABS light is on doesn't mean the tranny won't shift. My parking brake light is on, ABS light is on, and my speed sensor in my tranny doesn't work either, so I have no speedo or odometer. My tranny will still shift good and normal.

vzdude is sitting back .......waiting on definative diagnostics......codes are the only way to know for sure what could be causing the issue......and then .....the code will only point a technician in the right direction to do further diagnosis.......nothing is ever cut and dry....trust me.......

^ you can argue with me all day till your blue in the face but you better bring a sack lunch. I never said just because his ABS light is on his truck wont shift. Having the transmissions speed sensor out also sets off an ABS light. I had the EXACT same thing happen. I parked the truck, came back out and it would not shift all of the sudden AND had the ABS light on. I went to the dealership after searching on here for my problem and replacing that dinky $30 sensor in 5 minutes instantly fixed everything. ABS light went away and trans shifted just as it should have.
