Transfer case lose is this normal?????

I was under my truck because it is making a weird sound when I first start to back up like a grinding sound so when I was under the truck looking around I grabbed the front drive shaft and pushed up and down on it and noticed that the transfer case moved up and down when I pushed and pulled. I was wondering if this was normal or if I need to take it back to the shop that pulled my tranny to do my clutch and have them look at it. Also could this be something that would make a poping noise that I have had in my front end for a while?

Thanks Roark.

No I think you have something wrong there, you should not be able to move your t-case. At least I can't on mine.

You have a problem, or maybe the mech that did the clutch may have a bigger problem. Call the mech and let him make the decision if he wants you to drive it back or send out a flatbed to pick it up.

Most definitely the tranny and the T-case have to come out again and the bearings etc have to be checked. The T-case being lose will try to bend the shafts and will load the bearings like there's no tomorrow. I'd also suggest the flatbed because it's usually better not to go on wearing parts and it's also very bad news if the t-case ot the tranny seizes at xx mph- no use stepping on the clutch... good for some adrenaline
