Trans issue

Truck was fine yesterday. Today I have no second gear unless I Rev it and let it coast. Then it shifts but I have to baby it or it will shift back to first. Once that happens is fine. I can feel it down shifting when I stop. Thoughts.

Sounds like first/second gear clutches are shot. A reputable trans shop should easily be able to diagnose this. Good luck.

update,
it will shift into 2nd if I let of the throttle and will drive fine after that. it's not slipping at all. it just won't shift into 2nd unless I let of the throttle. sounds more like a pressure issue?

I had the same issue and I also thought pressure issue. It worked that exact way till it became more difficult to get it to shift. I'd get a trans shop to check it.

Electronic transmissions use solenoids to direct the pressure. They get laggy if the solenoids start getting weak. This would be my first suspicion. If it's pressure related, I'd think you'd have trouble with *all* shifts if pre solenoid pack, or have it slip with a leak post solenoid pack.

HOWEVER, most clutch frictions have high and low points. Once the highs wear off, the engagement pressure sometimes has trouble overcoming the surface tension of the oil on the surfaces of the frictions. When worn to this point if you "let off" on the throttle, it allows the pressure to pinch the clutch pack together and then it'll hold fine.

Car max out sources their transmission work. As an idea/option go try to find out who does their work. This is how I found a reputable/honest shop.

Try Larry's transmission on Foster. I can't vouch for them but I would give a call anyway. Tony Garcin of Dunrite had some type of relationship with them when he was still around. We were there a couple times for some reason which I can no longer recall. Tony was owner of Dunrite who was in the Couve at the time. Source owns it now over in Clackamas area. Might try them too. PM for more info if you need.

Once the shop opened the trans up, they stated it was first and second gear clutches worn out. At that point, you might as well overhaul the entire trans which they did. That used trans lasted me 8yrs! Change filter and fluid annually and it will greatly improve the life of a trans!
