Trans Hunting? Sometimes
Trans Hunting? Sometimes
I have about 50k on my trans rebuild and have never had any problems at all until recently.
Trans is a 47RE with a West Coast converter
In the last few days when I ever so slightly start to accelerate between about 40-50 mph it feels like it is starting to shift out of OD then locks back in to OD. The total time it does this is maybe ÂĽ second. Just long enough for the rpm to start increasing and then return to normal.
At higher or lower speeds it is normal. It isn’t TC shudder, I know how that feels. I checked codes and there are none. Fluid is fine. There is no slip when pulling my trailer or when empty.
It just feels like it is “hunting” only when just slightly stepping on the throttle at that speed. It does this maybe 50% of the time….
Any Ideas?

Sounds exactly like what mine was doing for the last 1000 miles. It gave up the ghost last weekend while hauling my trailer. Burned it up with only 56000 miles on the truck! Not real happy. I was told it is most likely the torque converter locking and unlocking. I wouldn't take the chance and get the converter checked out if I were you, it is alot cheaper than if the whole thing goes. I also know another guy in town that had the same exact thing happen. There is no sign as to when it will go either, I hit a bump in the road at about 35 mph with my trailer behind me and when I went to give it some pedal again.........no tranny!
