Tranny No Shift Issue

When I take off from a stop at full throttle the truck pulls hard up to 3200rpm. At this point it just stays there until I let off the throttle and pump it a bit. Then it shifts to second and every other gear just fine. I tried pulling selector down to first and taking off at full throttle and when engine reached 3000rpm I manually shifted to second but it wouldn't shift unless I played with the throttle. If I stay below 3/4 throttle or so the truck will shift out of first no problem at all. Then I can get back in the throttle and it shifts fine through the rest of the gears. Please help. Thanks.

Have any tranny work done to it?? I rebuilt my cousins and turned the line pressure up and it iddn't like it. It would do the same thing hold it wot and it's hit the gov. back off to 3\4 throttle shift but it was more of the 3-4 shift. turn the line pressure down a turn and fixed it. It could also be the gov. solenoid or the related.

I've never done anything to the tranny. I bought this thing used so who knows whats been done previously. It does shift firmer than any auto I've ever driven but I assumed it was normal for these?

Something is obviously not right. My advice is to get it into the trans shop and have it looked at. Take it from a guy who knows...the longer you drive it, the more your gonna tear up, the more your gonna pay for a rebuild.

It could be something as simple as a band needing adjustment. Dont take it to some dilbert...get someone who knows dodge transmissions.

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
Check throttle cable adjustment. If cable is adjusted short, sometimes valve body cannot overcome throttle pressure. Hence let off throttle and upshift occurs.
If gov pressure is low it will not be able to upshift is another possibility. Would need to check gov pressure with gauge to confirm.
Dilberts not allowed either.

Thanks for everybody's help. I played around with the TV cable adjustment and the problem seems to have been solved. I got it so that it now shifts out of 1st gear at WOT @ 3100 rpm.
