The only thing I do is run amsoil and change it every 12 months or 12 thousand miles per the amsoil manufacture.

remove the air intake tube (especially if aftermarket) to make it easier to remove the filter.

use a 'jaw' type filter remover, or punch a screwdriver thru the side and turn to remove.

Yes, the fumoto drain valve. Saves the mess. Easy to draw off oil for samples.

Fumoto drain valve.... Any letting your truck sit for a while before you change your oil will allow time for the oil in the filter to settle so you dont have it running all over when you screw the filter off...

Slip a gallon size ziplock bag over the filter after you initially loosen it....but before the oil starts flowing out around the top.
When it drops free of the stud, you can remove the filter and all the (now contained) oil without dousing the right side of the block with waste oil.

Simply zip the bag closed and dipose.

Just an addition to this, do this when the filter is cool. I made the mistake of doing this when it was still toasty and melted the bag, made a bigger mess than if I had done it without a bag and just removed it straight out.

Then when u get done filter the used oil and dump it in the fuel tank, been doing it for 2 years now no probs, just make sure when u do it your at the fuel pumps so u can fill up with diesel and mix everything up. I do a mixture of 3 gals used oil to a full tank top off of diesel. then u dont have to worry about used oil in 10 different containers all about the yard.

I've got the EZ CHANGE DRAIN PLUG on my truck. Super clean way to change oil, I just let it drain overnight and the zip lock bag over the filter works great when the filter is cool.

If no drain valve, wear latex exam glove when pulling plug. Good habit of gloving-up as EMT for twenty years pays off at home. Also, instead of using pricey zip lock bags for filter, I just get plastic grocery bag that has no holes in it. Does the same thing.
