timing the engine, cam crank and ip

timing the engine, cam crank and ip

iam finally putting the engine back together but it been too long and i forget how to set the timing for the cam and IP. The only thing showing up in searches is about pump timing. thanks

On the crank rotate untill you are at tdc cylinder #1-the dot on the crank gear is about at the 1 o'clock spot. The cam gear has 2 sets of dots, alighn the pair of dots on cam gear with single dot on crank. The ip gear has 2 dots. Aline these with the single dot on cam gear.


Make sure you are at tdc #1 and not tdc cyl#6. You can pull the valve cover and verify this.

TDC of #1 and #6 is one and the same. The only difference is the cam position, which is what is being set here anyway.
