Tc lock up switch

I read it somewhere ??? Some one put a switch in, to control the TC lockup . What I'm looking for is what wire do you tap into and where do you find it? If I remember it was a goof proof lock up switch?. Thanks

Old Iron,
I know one guy that did it, but I don't know how he did it. I too am thinking about doing it. The other alternative is the Smart controler from DTT, but that cost some money. I'll ask him this weekend how he did it. Others on this board probably can tell you how to do it.
Big dawg...

Re:Tc lock up switch

Here is some information from Dodgeram.org:

"Most of you may already know this but when installing the TST version of the TC lockup switch on my 1998 ISB the orange black wire that you tap into runs through part of the harness breakout behind the engine. The harness heads right straight down to the transmission and is a convenient place to tap into this wire. Simply get an 18 gauge parallel splicer from Radio Shack with silicone grease already in it and lay it next to the tranny wire. Also lay the wire to your switch into it, crimp it together and thread it through the firewall. Wire to your switch, wire the other contact on your switch to ground and you're there. Works great! "

Keep in mind though that people have reported problems after doing this so I would be careful if I were you. I would give one of the transmission shops a call before doing this to get some advice from them.

Don at ATS should be able to explain some of this thing in detail. Their tech razzed me a bit when they were installing my Tranny. They knew I had a mystery switch right away and gave me the eye roll.

good luck with it.

Jack

Re:Tc lock up switch

The problem with the manual lockup switch is that you are likely to fry your transmission if you use the lock up for strong acceleration or engine braking. The standard set up is not made for the forces that an upgraded Cummins can put out.
Having said that, I ran a lock up switch for many miles...I used it very judiciously.

On the RH transmission, you ground the orange/black wire to the computer...pin #32, I think. Do not cut the wire on the RH trannies.
I think that there are instructions on the TST site.
george

frying the converter? yes, easy to do. you can have it lock up so low that you could really slip the lock up clutch under stock or close-to-stock power. i wouldn't use it (i have an UNlock switch).

Is that cause the stall speed on these trucks is to high?

Re:Tc lock up switch

BB-it's because of the low line pressures at low throttle. if you roll into the throttle semi-hard at 1200rpms locked, it should be easy to slip. now, if these trucks came stock with say a 91% efficient converter, we wouldn't have to worry much about a lock up switch (you know the situation-BLAH).

Tom.

Re:Tc lock up switch

Ok guys this is what I have been thinking of doing. If I were to build some kind of a spring loaded switch to go on the floor that I could operate by setting my left foot on it when I want lock such as going down a hill and simply remove the foot for normal operation. Then you could also have a on off switch to disable the foot switch so it could'nt be bumped when not wanted. One step further have the on off switch have a function to work as the goof proof mistery switch that works off turbo boost pressure. Thanks for the advice on not using this under very hard pulls or low rpm. The bad part of is is right after I bought the truck I had to replace the torque converter had I had known what I know now thanks to all of you I would have put in a triple lock converter. ???
