Taking a turbo apart?

I've never been inside a turbo before. Is there any reason why I can't undo the four bolts attaching the compressor to the exhaust housing, the oil line and stuff, and just slide out the "cartridge" (compressor/bearing assembly/exhaust wheel) with the exhaust turbine housing still on the truck? Seems like a waste of effort and hard on the gaskets to take the whole unit off to take it apart.

OK, well, I'll let you all know if it was possible or not.

Thanks.

Please do as I had never worked on the turbo myself!

Yep, it can be done, and I did it. Easy, no problems.
