Taking off front driveshaft
Taking off front driveshaft
I'm gonna be taking off my front driveshaft today to see if it's the culprit of a vibration I have in my truck. What dod I need to do to take it off? I know I need to mark it so it goes back on the same way. But what bolts should I undue to remove? Will I need to pull the u-joints out? When I pull it out of the transfer case, am I going to need to plug the hole in the transfer case or what? Thanks for the help yall.
Re:Taking off front driveshaft
there should be 8 bolts to remove 4 large ones in the rear by the CV joint and 4 smaller one in the front by the pinion. the slip shaft is built into the drive shaft so there is no yoke to slide in to the transfercase so unless the seal is bad there should be no fluid loss. if you take the shaft out and the vibration goes away when u reinstall it put it back 180* from the position it came out and see if that helps. while its out check all the u-joints they should all move nice and smooth if not replace them. lastely if you do all that and put it back in and still have the vibration have the shaft ballanced and the pinion angle checked...this is all based on removal of the shaft eliminating the vibration....however if the pinion angle is off you could still get a vibration with the shaft out. also check the u-joints in the front axle and rear shaft...

Re:Taking off front driveshaft
My pinion angles are dead on. Heck, they are perfectly straight. When I had my lift installed, they tilted my front driveshaft just a little. So I know there is absolutely no way it is binding. The vibration just recently started when I started driving back and forth from College Station to Houston. Thanks for the suggestions and help.
