Taking Bets

I bought my truck with 116,000 miles on it last year. Now it has 129,000 on it. Since this is my first diesel I did not know that I should have checked the fuel press before I bought it. I should have realized that something was wrong when the canister would not fill up after a filter change but I was ignorant to the diesel world. Needless to say, I have been running this truck for 13,000 miles without fuel pressure and who knows how long the previous owner ran it.

Wanna bet how long my IP will last after taking this abuse?

Replace the LP and keep driving it. It may quit tomorrow.....and then, it may last for a long time.

I noticed gages in your sig. Is the fuel gage a "fuel pressure" gage?

Yes it is a fuel pressure gauge. I tried hooking it up through the schrader valve going to an isolator. I really did not like that so I hooked it up straight from my canister to my gauge using a needle valve. Hopefully my IP will continue to work OK. I seems like it is a lot more peppier now that I'm getting enough fuel to it. Think it will tow better?

Same thing with my truck, bought it and never new about the fuel issues, everytime i would change the fuel filter the lift pump wouldn't fill the filter housing up, no telling how long it was that way before i bought it, ran it for 36K miles with no problems 90 percent of the miles was with a loaded 18' car trailer going to other states and back, then i replaced the lift pump with a new one after finding this board, thought all was good then 3 month later truck won't start, VP Dead. Ran like a champ the day before. So i would say it could be tomarrow or months from now. I wish i would have found this board earylier. Gives me a excuss for a HRVP44, better fuel pump and guages and now i know what can happen.

I use the needle valve. It gets to ratteling every now and then, but a little adjustment takes care of it.

No doubt, if it's now getting plenty of fuel, it probably runs better and will tow better.
