Would a dead lift pump throw a code and which one?
truck ran fine yesterday and today it started for a minute then died and will not restart- i used to hear an electric humm in engine bay which i thought was the lift pump and it is silent now- which leads me to believe it is the problem.

any advice is greatly appreciated- thank you

 

my first lift pump failure did not show any codes, it was inoperative for who knows how many miles. i discovered it when i changed the fuel filter for the first time. an acceleration stumble was the only performance issue...the check ball spring broke,
the pump still would run but would not pump

 

Put a gauge in the cab.
All 98.5 thru 02 must have it.
No it won't set a code, it just ruins the VP44.

 

My lift pump went out at 100,000 miles, the motor started, then just quit. I was lucky that the VP 44 pump was not damaged. Had the external lift pump replaced with an after market brand, and everything has run fine for the last two years.
