Stroker
Stroker
No not talkin a powerjoker but something similer to say stroking out a 318 to a 402 is it possiable to stroke out a 5.9l cummins has anyone done it or heard of it done before just a thought i have had since my buddy is building a 383 stroker.
Anything can be done....Whew thats a lot of material to move (where there is none )
Maybe there is an other crank on the market that could be reduced ??
So to stroke it what will you accomplish ?
There is not much room at the top...and more turbo will do the same thing for you with 99% less hassle
If it were naturally aspirated you would gain,,...but here I do not think so as your artificial (dynamic C.R.) is infinitely adjustable W.O. changing the crank

i've always thought about make'n mine into a 6.7....if the internals would interchange....i don't know near enough about the internals of the cummins to say it can or can't be down....within reason---cost and power gains overall..
for me it wouldn't be one of those "practical" things....just something fun to try out and see what happens.....

From: North Carolina or Kentucky. Take your pick
If you have money and a ideal, there will always be someone willing to take it. Whether you get desired results is another matter. The 6.7 block is a viable solution to your issue. The engineering has been done for you and it works. Doubt if anyone makes a special pin height piston to accomodate stroking. That is just beginning of project. Unlike a gasser where all the cubic inch issues have been explored. JMHO
I have slowly learned over the years that math is my / your friend...you can plug in the numbers and know what you will get B4 you even do it, as far as Hp /TQ - thats the beauty of math.
To go slightly larger on the lung side ( where eng get their power any way) would give you more power , at what cost ? Ho%^ Sh&*!! custom pistons, custom crank, custom block , custom cam( at almost 100 cc per cyl your block will never accommodate the slugs)
This is for more Pwr this pwr, right ?
Or to be honest is it to say I have 6.7? No one could tell the dif from the outside should you do this..........
What is impressive is a DYNO sheet !!
With that kind of $$$$$$$ it would take to R&D a 6.7 you could build ONE VERY impressive 5.9
The Dyno numbers would be what I want , not eng size.
JMO
PS like I said B4 with the right fuel / turbo stuff you can artificially raise it way past a static 6.7

Maximized..How much ? one is limited by the block itself..Not a wet linner, could you come out a 1/4 of a inch at the walls ??
Cant make the block taller,
A stroker crank would help, need diff rods and pistons of course...I am not at all sure how much further a piston could go south.a little I am sure

i think the biggest gain from stroking is the throw on the crank for the rod is longer giving more leverage to turn the crank . rod ratios play an important part too u dont want the piston moving fast on top and bottom and slow in the middle of the piston stroke
For sure there are bigger stroke engs out there...but there has to be some where for it to all go in the present house it lives in..When I or some else gets a moment to do the math lets on paper increase the stroke by 250 and the bore same
see what we get

i was just think'n that the concept is still the same as a 383 build up....just this would cost more...i mean...you get the longer stroke of a 6.7...it would be one heck of a daily driver, if you tow'd alot....i never, ever, ever want to see more than 50psi on my 3500....so for me...it's not as simple as just add more boost....just look'n at the posibilities of have'n a one off design that could pull a house down...better then the 5.9 could....and plus.......think about it......who out there besides the elite few has a "stroke" 5.9 cummins in there truck??? everyone and there brother can just mod a D-max for not that much anymore....
just my thoughts on a future project that i'd like to do...well learn how to do...
