Unhappy still low power

I have a 99 24v ctd 4x4 quadcab with 6'' lift and 305's.

I have replaced the lift pump, filter, map sensor, added fuel pressure gauge, cleaned the AIT sensor....

we pull no codes, checked the wastegate(all clear) not sure whate else to do. My friend is the parts manager for Cummins here, and he still thinks there should be a little bit more power. I am comparing to my buds 7.3 powersmoke. Doesanyone have suggestions, or is that just the limitations on the 5.9? also dont seem to see any problems with the vp. (yet)

3.55 gears? Even if you have the 4.10 with the lift and 305 tires that combo in stock form would be a dog in my opinion (and I drive alot of them). Also, if the ecm has never been flashed the truck will defuel in OD.

How are you comparing the power, dyno? Are both trucks manual or auto trannies? You large tires are hurting your performance so this may play into it.... There could be lots of reasons from a VP to a slipping tranny.

well, I know the tranny is new about 10,000 miles ago. not sure of the gears, thinkin stock 3.55 maybe. automatic tranny. my bud powersmoke has 295's but still has more push to the pedal. On the highway cruisin about 65-70, I floor it and it will try and down shift but it seems like there is something that is keeping it from dropping down and going into passing gear. Also at about 45-55 i candrop it into passing gear and you canhear the rpms go up and the turbo kick in but there is no boost in speed or power.....

You should feel a kick once the turbo starts spooling. A boost gauge would be good to have, so you know if you have a leak. Low power, more smoke and higher EGT's will be a symptom of a boost leak.

Check to see if any of your IC boot clamps are off or broke. Also make sure they have no holes or rips in them....

i too felt that mine was kinda wimpy. so i fixed it by.........................
well read my sig and you will get the idea.
remember this is a diesel not a gasser. they are designed to work not race.
also may want to get the tranny looked at cuz it should imo drop into passing gear at that speed. jmo.
i got enough power now that when i drop the hammer the old ladies head bounces off the back window!

I was on the highway the other day behind a nissan frontier mid sized truck in the passing lane and was trying to push him so he would move over well when the other lane got clear I moved over and was going to pass him..... yeah right, he got about 3 car lenghts ahead and kept it there while we both sped up to about 95. I was at WOT and not able to pass this little nissan. Talk about you off!!! What the heck is my trucks problem???

Mine was a dog when stock, could not power brake and spin the tires. I added a fueling box (VA, then EZ) and stage 1 injectors (80hp). Made all the difference in the world. Maybe try box/injectors. Of course then the BOMB bug bites, that was $7k ago (look at my signature). Now the truck will break the tires loose anytime I want. Fun But seriously, just a box and small injectors may be all you need to feel secure about passing someone.
Later, Gene

currently dont have a boost pressure gauge. have one on the way.. I keep thinking there is something wrong with the stock ctd. Was wanting to figure that our b4 I start modding. But if that is the way it is supposed to run, then I have no choice but mods.. I checked the wastegate diaphram it seems to work ok. Just feels real doggy. Dont know what else to do..

Don't expect a stock, 225 hp '99 to be a race truck. Mine is a 5 sped and even with the EZ and RV 275 injectors, it's not going to win many drag races. Now, when I hook on to 7K #'s or so, at highway speeds it's a hero. I haven't had my Smarty long enough to tow with yet, but in town it does make some difference.

Also, I agree with the previous post about getting your tranny checked. At any speed that it should downshift, you should have pretty good acceleration.

I just noticed that you're running B100. Mine looses some power, even with B10. I have B20 in the tank now, and even the Smarty in "Economy" mode is not getting my average mileage.
