Steering Stabilizer Replacement...

I was getting the truck ready to take to Ocean City Maryland and found the stabilizer shock leaking. Should be no prob to replace, right. I could not find one at a parts warehouse in Cloumbus, Ohio. Located one at a dealer who was asking 126.00..wow. I then found a front end shop that would replace the shock for 134.00, asked them about where they found one, the named the dealer that was asking 126 cash & carry, go figgure. Called another dealer, much further away and they wanted 107.00. Needles to say, I added a few extra miles to my truck. I guess the point is, I was very supprised at the varience in price between dealers. Just something to pass along. I am not sure about posting the name of the local dealer, but he wont sell me any parts EVER. Next time I will not wait till the last minute to get things ready.

This simple looking job took me and my brother about 2.5 hours to do. After beating and beating and then beating some more we could not get the tappered end to pop out. Finally cut the spot weld holding the retainer washer on and slid the shock off of the tappered bolt. Then used a pipe wrench and cheater bar to twist the bolt and it popped right out. Job done 10mins later.

---EDIT--
Oh yea, dealer told me they very rarley (sp?) ever sell one of these, wonder why? LOL.

You should have gone aftermarket. Half the price and better quality.

I replaced my steering stabilizer with Rancho 5000 when I put on bigger tires. About $90 installed. Didn't look like it should be hard to do, but for $8 I let them do it. Much better than stock.

My goal was to replace with aftermarket, just wanted to use stock style mounting, maybe that is NOt the way to go, as nobody had one for it 'cept the stealers. Thats what happens when you want to get 'er done in a hurry. I did have one dealer tell me that rancho supplies these for Doge. Just kind of courious (sp?) on part no's.

I have a Rancho RS5000 stab too and it is a factory replacement that does not use a different mounting configuration. It does however come with a replacement stud that bolts into the tapered hole and allows you to bolt and unbolt the stab without having to remove the tapered end from the steering link - much better and about half the price.
