Spindle nut removal
Spindle nut removal
I can't get the spindle nut off my GF's 2001 dodge dullie. I have broke one 1/2" breaker bar and twisted the square off another. Going to get a 3/4" breaker bar tomorrow but could use some ideas. Tried electric impact and poor mans impact.
When I did the front axle seals on my old '95 2500 V10, they finally came off using a "real" impact gun after I put a torch to the nut. I can't give you the specs on the gun offhand, but it was a 1/2" drive and it struggled. Initially I broke a 1/2" drive breaker bar that I put a 4' piece of pipe over the handle and bounced on it....ooops
They do come off though !
They do come off though !
You can't buy replacement bearings for them, you have to buy the whole unit. I couldn't get my passenger side nut off, so I heated it up pretty good and got it off with a 1/2" breaker bar and a piece of pipe on the end of that. And low and behold, as the nut came off, it ripped the threads right off of my stub shaft! You would think that it would have messed the threads up on the nut before the shaft, especially since I heated the nut up. Anyways, took the stub shaft to a local machine shop where they welded it back up, turned it down do size and rethreaded it for $40. Looked good as new.
