shock rubbers

shock rubbers

ok either im the dumbest shade mechnic in the world or somebody has had this problem the top rubbers onthe shocks keep blowing out this will be the 3rd set in 2weeks HELP ME. what do i do to correct this bottom ones are ok i think im putting on right pretty straight forward job i think.

so your talking about the bushings on top of a pin top style shock. what brand of shock. are you using the correct brand of bushing. and how are they going bad. you have round disk's that should be holding the bushing and then a nut on top. are you putting them on to tight? maybe post a picture of them

Too tight might do it but most of the time it is because they are not tightened enough. If not tight enough then the bushing becomes a second shock absorber and it will not last long at all. Most shocks are designed so that the nut bottoms out at the same time the bushing is preloaded correctly. If that is not happening then you have to watch the bulge in the bushing as you tighten it. When the bushing is flush against the washer on top and slightly bigger in diameter then it is right. You have to make sure the top washer is beveled down and the bushing is not compressed so far it is cutting into the side of the washer. It is a balancing act.

Switch to poly bushings? They are a bit tougher than rubber. Set 'em up like Rick said.
